Ski Holidays in France

France has to find some of the most exciting ski resorts and more popular in Europe - and perhaps the world, and if you're planning a vacation this winter is likely to consider France as an option.

The three major ski resorts in France are the Alps in the south of France, the Pyrenees along the French border with Spain, and the Massif Central in south central France. Although the Pyrenees and the Massif Central are popular, especially with>French skiers, it is in the heart of the Alps that you will find the best ski regions and to which most experienced skiers turn.

Within the Alps many of the ski resorts have become interlinked, in the race by each resort to proclaim that they are the biggest and the best. Hence there are about five substantial ski areas, each containing various villages, and each trying to offer better facilities than the next.

The main regions are:

The Portes du Soleil - including Avoriaz, Morzine
L'Espace Killy - Val d'Isere around the base
The region around Chamonix Mont Blanc
The three valleys - with Meribel and Courchevel
Serre Chevalier and the region around Briancon

All of these fall within the Rhone-Alpes region in France, except the last, which is in the north, mountainous part of Provence.

Which region of France, your holiday to vote? Now each region has to offer something special. Some have more trails for beginners, sking a few miles from the runway, and others have a particular focus on the "après-ski activities. Similarly, some resorts are family-friendly, and others have a long season of skiing at higher elevations.

For this reason, you can not say what "better" - depends very much on what you're looking for and the level of skills. But there's one thing we are sure you can - look at the details for many French ski resorts, and one of them issure to be exactly the place you are dreaming of...
